York Fresh Food Farms is a 501(c)(3), nonprofit organization that operates a year-round, sustainable urban vegetable farm in South Central Pennsylvania with a June to November Mobile Produce Market operation, winter markets and FarmShares (a year-round CSA).

York Fresh Food Farms has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Farm Manager to manage all aspects of planning, production and distribution of produce grown on our urban farm.
This position is for an energetic, visionary and collaborative individual who will perform and supervise the work of the farm and related activities to carry out York Fresh Food Farms’ mission to improve access to affordable, healthy, fresh food.
*QUALIFICATIONS: *2 to 4-year degree in an agricultural field, and/or 3-5 years relevant farm production work experience.
*GENERAL DUTIES: *The Farm Manager has overall responsibility for assessing community needs, then developing and carrying out plans for growing, and distributing produce to meet the identified needs.
This includes day-to-day field and high tunnel operations and greenhouse production, hiring and managing seasonal and year-round workforce, and ensuring the successful production of various crops.
The Farm Manager is also responsible for ensuring community access to produce through the Mobile Produce Markets and other sales outlets, and donations of excess produce to food pantries and other venues.
The Farm Manager has workforce management and financial responsibility for all aspects of farm operations.
As a nonprofit organization with year-round farming and market operations, York Fresh Food Farms is open to the public and the Farm Manger will be engaging with the public, our customers, vendors, community partners, volunteers, York Fresh Food Farms employees and many others, in addition to the farm work.
The Farm Manager must be available and willing to perform both the agriculture work and other work in the community that York Fresh Food Farms does to carry out its mission to increase access to healthy food.

_*Position Responsibilities*_ *Farming:* · Perform the planning for and physical labor of field and high tunnel preparation, planting, cultivating, weeding, thinning, pruning, trellising, mulching, composting, integrated pest management, harvesting to ensure high quality and timely production, washing, packing, loading, delivering, unloading produce, tilling, laying plastic mulch, sowing cover crops, mowing, light construction, seeding and greenhouse production.
· Perform general farm upkeep such as irrigation system and facilities maintenance and light construction projects.
· Survey fields for weekly harvest forecast.
· Develop and implement annual crop plan, seed and transplant ordering, rotations, planting map, greenhouse seeding.
Provide to the Operations Coordinator a weekly list of vegetables to be harvested.
· Perform basic tool and equipment maintenance.
· Coordinate farming production, produce sales activities and other commitments with Operations Coordinator.
· Ensure accurate recordkeeping and reporting on farm outcomes, including periodic updates and reports to the Board of Directors and others.
· Develop and implement human safety, food safety, farm sanitation and emergency procedures.
*Distribution:* · Develop and execute a marketing plan for the Mobile Produce Market and other sales outlets with an emphasis on serving York, PA’s low-income families.
· Cultivate meaningful relationships with local food access organizations, other nonprofits, schools, and health care organizations to increase consumption of fresh fruits and vegetables.
· Supervise the Operations Coordinator to assure: o Produce presentation and customer service is optimized for all produce sales programs.
o Current and regularly updated information and promotion about summer and winter mobile markets, and FarmShares, produce information, and events is maintained on Facebook, Instagram, other social media, and Website.
o Produce inventory is managed for quality and with focus on York Fresh Food Farms grown produce and herbs, supplemented with locally grown produce- making harvest decisions, ordering additional produce from local vendors, and pricing market Items with view to profit margins consistent with nonprofit mission.
o Manage produce sales revenue, banking, online ordering/home delivery services.
o Monitor and authorize expenses within budget guidelines.
· Developrelationships with restaurants and local businesses to supplement mission-based produce sales.
*People Resources:* · Determine seasonal and year-round staffing needs for farm and produce sales.
· In collaboration with the Operations Coordinator, recruit, hire, and train farm and market staff and volunteers.
· Workforce management; establish role-specific expectations and supervise all employees and volunteers.
· Work with the Operations Coordinator to optimize staffing schedules throughout the entire year.
· Work with volunteer groups of various ages, abilities, and backgrounds to assist with completion of various field and other projects.
· Coordinate and host farm-based educational and volunteer programs such as volunteer days, workshops, tours, and student engagement.
*Stakeholder Relations:* · Maintain and develop relationships with farm and market employees, vendors, customers, contractual parties, community partners, the York business community, York Fresh Food Farms donors and volunteers.
· Create reports, newsletter content and other updates to share farm news and status.
*Finance:* · Prepare the annual budget(s) for all farm operations, including farm, produce markets and other programs.
· Through oversight of the Operations Coordinator: o Maintain accurate farming records and records of all financial transactions.
o Maintain POS (point of sale) system and produce sales data, including coupons and other incentives, receipts and revenue including online sales, delivery, credit/debit/EBT payments.
o Generate reports for financial recordkeeping as needed.
o Generate weekly sales and farm reports that include amount and types of produce harvested, amount of produce sold and donated, produce sales by date, location, source of payment and other relevant performance measures.
*Work Schedule* This position is full-time exempt and field based/home-office.
It requires weekend and possibly evening hours, with the major part of the schedule dictated by the type and timing of farm work that needs to be done.

Ability to analyze data from various sources to understand and optimize production, promotion, and distribution.

Ability to work an average of 40 hours a week with workday hours that can vary and weekend and evening work required as needed depending on the season.
