Job Description BAE System is searching for an Industrial Hygiene and Safety Manager to support at its York, Pennsylvania location.
Reporting to the Safety, Health, and Environmental (SHE) Director, the Industrial Hygiene and Safety Manager will heavily focus on Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Health, and injury/illness prevention and case management.
The Industrial Hygiene and Safety Manager will be charged with providing guidance to operations, engineering, maintenance and support teams to ensure compliance with applicable local, state, and federal regulations; ensuring health risks are identified and mitigated; and driving process and program improvements.
The Industrial Hygiene and Safety Manager will have direct reports including an Industrial Hygienist and a Health and Wellness Administrator and will oversee the company contracted to provide medical services at the York location, in addition to providing individual contribution.
Manage all aspects of the industrial hygiene, occupational health, and injury/illness prevention and case management programs.
Serve as a subject matter expert (SME) for specific occupational health and industrial hygiene subjects and regulatory program areas that drive regulatory compliance and SHE continuous improvement across the York location.
Oversee the development and implementation of an industrial hygiene exposure assessment and monitoring strategy.
Oversee the development and implementation of a system for ergonomic risk identification and mitigation.
Drive continuous improvement in the occupational health, industrial hygiene, worker’s compensation, and medical case management programs and procedures.
Identify, develop, and implement occupational health and industrial hygiene goals and objectives which will positively impact and add value to the organization.
Identify needed support from outside consultants, developing scopes of work, and managing the work performed by those consultants.
Manage emergency response planning efforts and initiatives to ensure site readiness for responding to safety and health related emergencies, including training for Emergency Response Team members in first-aid, CPR, AED, and blood borne pathogens.
Ensure medical evaluations, hearing tests, employee pre-employment exams, and random and reasonable suspicion drug and alcohol testing are conducted in an appropriate manner.
Ensure employee medical files and other protected medical information are maintained in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.
Coordinate with health care providers and BAE Systems managers and supervisors to ensure treatment plans and return-to-work plans for injured employees are developed and implemented effectively.
Lead or participate in investigations to determine causes and corrective/preventive actions for incidents which potentially impact employee health and well-being.
Interact with injured workers, BAE Systems managers and supervisors, attorneys, and health care providers to ensure treatment and return-to-work plans are implemented in an effective manner.
Identify existing gaps in the effectiveness of injury/illness prevention and claims management; participate in efforts to identify the causes for those gaps; and help ensure implementation of corrective and preventive actions to close the gaps.
Participate in budget preparation and tracking, establishing and monitoring progress toward department goals.
Ensure safety and health related metrics, both leading and lagging, are collected, tracked, and reported on as required.
Participate as needed in SHE Assurance and Management Systems Audits as an audit team member.
Actively track performance and report on status of identified goals and objectives.
Required Education, Experience, & Skills Typically requires a Bachelors in Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, Natural Sciences, or related discipline with a minimum of eight (8) years of related experience in occupational health and/or industrial hygiene, or the overall equivalent; Experience implementing and/or maintaining safety and health management systems such as ISO 45001, OSHAS 18001, ISO 14001; Excellent communication skills, verbal, written, presentation; Skilled leader with supervisory experience; Ability to support on-site at the York, PA facility; Able to support travel of about 10%, in particular to provide support at the Elgin, OK site.
Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills Preferred, but not required: MS degree in Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering or Natural Sciences; Ten+ years’ experience in safety and health management; Certification as a CIH or CSP; Experience managing safety and health programs in a heavy manufacturing environment; Experience managing or leading safety health and environmental professionals.
Pay Information Full-Time Salary Range: $111700 - $189900 Please note: This range is based on our market pay structures.
However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
